Language of Dreams
Language of Dreams
Adhesive vinyl, shower curtains
2021

From October 1 to November 15, 2021, the site-specific work "The Language of Dreams" will be installed on the porch of the historic Speed Mansion in Louisville, KY as part of the Terrain Biennial. The heart of this project is based in surrealism’s loving fear of the unconscious mind and its mysteries. Visitors to the Speed Mansion will see transparent curtains surrounding the porch, often flapping in the breeze and glinting in the sun. These curtains are adorned with holographic vinyl stencils depicting surreal combinations and distortions of the human body. The warped, merged, and transfigured body parts are unsettling representations marked with mystery, confusion, and humor. Over the course of the biennial, curtains will be added and taken down, providing viewers with a shifting visual experience.

The Terrain Biennial is a grassroots biennial exhibition that takes place around the world. Terrain re-purposes private spaces such as front yards, porches, or windows and turns them into public spaces to foster dialogue between neighbors and provide opportunities for artists and viewers alike to experience new perspectives. Terrain Exhibitions is a 501c3 Not for Profit organization established in the State of Illinois. Founded in Oak Park Illinois by artist Sabina Ott, the Terrain Biennial has produced editions in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 & 2021.
